Hygge is often associated with winter, but it’s really a year-round concept. In the summer, hygge can be found in simple pleasures like sitting on the porch with a glass of iced tea or taking a leisurely stroll through the park.
But in the colder months, hygge takes on a whole new meaning. There’s something about the chilly weather that makes us want to curl up with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate. Maybe it’s the shorter days and longer nights. Or the need to find ways to stay warm and comfortable.
Whatever the reason, there’s no denying that the winter months are the perfect time to embrace hygge. No matter what the weather is like outside, there’s nothing quite like coming home to a cozy fire and slipping into your favorite pair of slippers. Or pulling on a pair of thick, fuzzy socks after a long day. Or putting on a soft, comfortable sweater when the temperature starts to drop…
And what better way to do that than with a few cozy staples? Here are some of our favorite hygge-inducing items to help you get through the winter in style (and comfort!).
A Good Pair of Slippers
Slippers will not only keep your feet warm, but actually make it feel like walking on clouds and soothe your tired soles after a long day. You just simply can’t go wrong with a good pair of slippers!
The best hygge slippers are made from natural materials like wool or sheepskin. They should be soft and comfortable, with a durable sole that can withstand some wear and tear. And of course, they should be cozy enough to keep your feet warm on even the coldest of days.
There are many hygge inspired patterns and colors to choose from, so you can find a pair of slippers that fit your personal style. But we think the best slippers are the ones that make you feel like you’re being hugged by a warm, fuzzy blanket.
For the inner sole of your slippers you might like to choose memory foam, as it will contour to your feet and provide extra cushioning. You can also add an extra layer of warmth with a pair of thick socks. For the outer sole, pick something durable like rubber or suede. This will help your slippers last longer and prevent you from slipping on any icy patches.
A Thick Pair of Socks
Once you’ve got your slippers taken care of, it’s time to focus on your socks. And when it comes to socks, the thicker the better. Thick socks are not only incredibly cozy, but they also trap heat and help keep your feet warm.
Wool is always a good choice for winter socks, as it’s an excellent insulator. But if you’re looking for something a little different, you can also find socks made from materials like alpaca, cashmere, and even bamboo.
When it comes to style, there are no rules when it comes to socks. You can choose a fun pattern or stick with a classic solid color. And don’t be afraid to mix and match! Pairing different colors and patterns is a great way to add a little personality to your outfit.
A Comfortable, Cozy Sweater
No winter wardrobe is complete without a cozy sweater. Chunky sweaters are a wonderfully versatile piece of clothing. They can be dressed up or down, and they always look chic.
When it comes to fabric and color, again, natural materials and neutral colors are always a good choice for the best hygge vibes. The important thing is that your sweater makes you feel comfortable and cozy. After all, that’s what hygge is all about.
I have two wool sweater, one with traditional Norwegian patterns called Mariusgenser, and one more modern design. I also have a beautiful alpaca sweater that’s so soft that I never want to take it off!
During the coldest days or even weeks of the year, I tend to live in my sweaters. I’ll pair them with leggings or jeans, and layer them over shirts and turtlenecks. They are the perfect clothing item for snuggling up on the couch with a good book or taking a long walk in the woods. Trust me, you can never go wrong with a cozy sweater.
Bottom Lines
With all of these hygge staples in your wardrobe, you’re sure to have a cozy winter. Just add a cup of tea or coffee, and you’ll be all set! Not only will you stay warm, but you’ll also look chic and stylish. And isn’t that what we all want?
